The First Binding marks the beginning of formal magical education at the
Central Academy for Magical Practice.
Students typically enter the First Binding at eleven years old, though admission may occur slightly
earlier or later depending on when a student’s magical core becomes stable enough for
structured instruction and usually takes three years to complete
The purpose of the First Binding is to provide a safe and carefully supervised environment
in which young mages can develop reliable control of their abilities while also continuing
a broad general education.
For some students this is their first sustained contact with
our small magical community, and the First Binding is designed to make that transition gradual
and supportive.
Enrollment at CAMP begins with an application and magical evaluation, which may be conducted either on campus or, for families living far from Torvale, through a certified regional examiner. A proper evalution ensures that the magical core is mature and stable enough to begin proper training and is therefore non-negotiable.
Families are asked to provide basic academic records as well as information about any prior magical
training the child may have received, whether through private instruction
or supervised practice at home.
CAMP welcomes students from both magical and non-magical family backgrounds and the admissions office
works closely with families who may be encountering magical education for the first time.
The curriculum combines both general academic education and introductory magical training.
Therefore students learn mathematics, languages, natural sciences and many more subjects alongside
the fundamentals of magical practice.
This ensures that students receive a broad education that remains fully compatible
with national academic standards.
Students in the First Binding typically reside in on-campus dormitories,
located within a short walking distance of their classrooms.
The dormitories are supervised by trained residential staff who ensure that students
maintain regular schedules and receive appropriate support as they adjust to campus life.
CAMP provides a single room for each student, plus common areas for studying, reading
or spending time with other students.
Emphasis is placed on creating a welcoming environment for our youngest students, so the
Fist Binding dormitories are located in between the Central Park and the lake, that belongs to
the campus. These areas provide the students fitting outdoor spaces for spending their free time.
Meals for First Binding students are provided through the First Binding dining hall,
which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.
The dining hall also offers snacks and warm drinks outside of regular meal hours which can be
purchased at additional cost.
CAMP’s food services accommodate dietary needs whenever possible and residential staff work closely
together with families to ensure that younger students maintain healthy eating habits.
Because magical training places physical demands on the body, nutrition is considered an important
part of the educational environment.
Outside the classroom, First Binding students are encouraged to participate
in after-school activities that support both social development and creative expression.
CAMP hosts a wide range of student clubs including sports teams, music ensembles and art workshops.
These activities are shared with students from the Second Binding,
allowing younger students to gradually become familiar with the wider campus community while
still maintaining the structured environment appropriate to their age.
Students are required to bring a few items with them at the start of the term:
Magical materials are largely provided by the academy during First Binding,
including practice implements used during spell exercises.
A full list will be included in the paperwork sent during the enrollment process.
It is important to obtain a young mages first staff from a trusted and certified staff maker.
Especially for families not familiar with the magical community, acquiring a staff
can be a challenge. Should you encounter problems or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact
CAMP's admissions office.
